    Wolfville, Nova Scotia

Visited a Luckett Vineyards operation near Wolfville in the Annapolis Valley to learn about the challenges of the grape industry after significant weather events impacted the sector. Luckett is one of many wine producers in the region. The vineyard owns impressive machinery – including a state of the art grape harvester.

The senator and his team got a chance understand the huge financial pressures facing Grape Growers in NS due to last winter’s extreme cold as well as financial and regulatory hurdles faced by the industry, which hampers their ability to compete globally.

    R-Stro Management

    August 16th, 2023

    Wolfville, Nova Scotia

Met with third generation Nova Scotian chicken farmer Luke teStroete and Melissa Taylor of Chicken Farmers of Nova Scotia. They showed us around Luke’s latest state of the art chicken broiler facility near Wolfville. Luke’s most recent facility includes so many measures that are crucial in maximizing animal health and fighting Avian Influenza.

Luke’s operation requires enormous technology and capital investments, including specialized lighting, ventilation and feed, to industry leading ventilation methods for his trucks, and entirely digitized farm management systems. No wonder agricultural producers like Luke rely on supply management to protect them from the monopsony power of poultry processors.
