Consultation on Strengthening Canada's Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Regime

I’m really pleased to see this paper and consultation on AML/ATF from Finance Canada / Finances Canada. In every estimate I’ve seen, the world’s current AML/ATF regime costs many, many times more to administer than it has, or ever will, confiscate from criminal or terrorist organizations. This provides Canada an opportunity to become a global leader.

A lynchpin in that fight, I believe, is the ability to enable controlled private-to-private sharing of personal data under the PCMLTFA. Chapter 6 considers the issues and possible changes that would enable this to occur under clearly stated guidelines between regulated entities.

If AML/ATF is an issue that you know and care about, please, read this document and contribute to the consultation.
